4 month review,
First the good features:
-the ipod functionality/control is excellent; easy to scroll through your albums/folders
-great controls for altering speaker balance
-ability to modify color display (14 colors i believe)
-handsfree works great-people cannot tell that im on handsfree. I connected the external mic near the upper left windsheild corner.
-nice looking headunit-piano black finish
-display is bright enough for me; other people have complained that its not bright enough.
The Bad:
-does not stream bluetooth A2DP…. huge flaw from kenwood. one would think kenwood’s top single din headunit would come with this feature. I would have rated it 5 stars but it is missing this feature.
-HD radio works off and on-I really cant tell the differeance
-when making phone calls, scrolling through the phone book via headunit is very annoying. much easier to control through phone.
-comes with a cheap kenwood cloth to store the faceplate. kenwood should have included a hardcase to protect the expensive to replace faceplate if it gets damaged.
Over this a good product and would recommend it…but if you wish to stream music via blue tooth, you may need to reconsider. I wish kenwood would upgrade their firware/system to inlcude bluetooth streaming. Do not bother buying the kenwood ipod cable, a regular ipod cable will work with the usb cable
I got a killer deal on the headunit + installation (LA area). Send me you email for further information.

Great sound and function…some design issues,
I love the radio’s sound quality and all of its features, but there a couple of flaws.
Display – The biggest flaw has to be the glare. You cannot get away from it in bright sun. The problem is the glossy curved glass design of the face. If you have dark interior, I think it would not be much of a problem. In my car most of the glare comes from the sun shining through the windshield and my lighter seats reflecting in the display. I defeat this by holding my hand up to the display, but the fact that I have to do this is annoying. This a case of a sleek design interfering with the functionality of the display. At night and the right conditions during the day, I love the display. It is very customizable. You decide exactly what is displayed for each line of the display (title, artist, album, clock…) for each source. There are several display modes as well. It is easy to use, but it is not intuitive when comes to menu navigation of all the options. So I would recommend it for the savvy user or at least needs to be setup by one to get the most out of it.
HD Radio Tuner – The sound improvement is slight (a little more dynamic range and stereo separation) on FM stations, but dramatic on AM stations (stereo capability and better sound frequency range). I like it more for the added sub-channels available. There are no preset buttons. So you have to setup all your presets through the menu then change the seek mode to preset mode to easily flip through your presets using the seek buttons. It has plenty of presets (18 FM, 6 AM) and they are all available in one long list (not split up into FM1, FM2…) Unfortunately, AM and FM are not available together.
iPod/USB – The iPod controls are great, and the sound is CD quality. You can sort by artist, album or playlist just like on your iPod. The cable comes out of the back and is an extension cable. You still have to use your iPod USB cable to connect to it. You can plug in any USB thumb drive or even an external hard drive into it as long as it is FAT16 or FAT32. NTFS file system does not work; I have tried with my Seagate portable.
Bluetooth – Hands-free phone capabilities work well. It automatically mutes the radio when a call comes in and also can be set to auto-answer. Sound quality is decent. It downloads your phonebook to the radio, and you can flip through it via the radio controls. It also has presets for numbers that stay in the radio and can be used with any phone. The Bluetooth does NOT stream music. This is disappointing considering this is the top of the line unit.
Aux Input – It is in the rear and you have to run a separate cable to access it. An additional front input would have been nice. As I think the rear one is more for a permanent input such as DVD or video game sound.

Kenwood Receiver,
I would buy this product again. I installed it in my motor home and the reception is great. I like the Bluetooth feature that lets me hear my calls through the radio speakers and it has a hands free mike. I also bought the satellite receiver and it was an easy install. (Plug and Play) I did have an antenna already installed for the Sirius satellite, so I only had to plug that part into the receiver. I would recommend this receiver to anyone who wants a radio that has Bluetooth and satellite radio.
